The Migration Policy Centre (MPC) and the Global Citizenship Observatory (GLOBALCIT) are organizing a conference titled “An interconnected world? Rethinking citizenship and migration” at the European University Institute (EUI) in Florence, Italy. The event is scheduled for May 9–10, 2024, at the Theatre, Badia Fiesolana.
This conference aims to explore the complexities of migration patterns and citizenship regimes within the context of global interconnectedness. It seeks to foster interdisciplinary discussions on the challenges and opportunities arising from current migration and citizenship dynamics. The event will feature insights from various disciplinary, methodological, and empirical perspectives to promote a comprehensive reflection on key issues in these interconnected fields.
The conference will address topics such as the governance of linkages between individuals and states across time and space, the outcomes of different governance modalities, and the impacts on individuals and groups. It will also delve into the design, practice, and effects of citizenship and migration regimes, as well as the underlying pathologies and dysfunctions of the governance systems that produce and sustain these regimes.
The event is jointly convened by the EUI’s Migration Policy Centre (MPC) and Global Citizenship Observatory (GLOBALCIT), both integral parts of the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies. The scientific organizers include Andrew Geddes and Martin Ruhs from the MPC, and Jelena Džankić and Maarten Vink from GLOBALCIT.
